Delete it in the app
If you can sign in, you can delete your own account without asking us. It happens immediately and cannot be undone.
- Open Settings from your profile menu.
- Go to General and scroll to Danger Zone.
- Hit Delete Account and confirm.
It's the same place in the web, desktop, and mobile apps.
If you own a server other people are in, hand it over first. The dialog walks you through it: pick a new owner for each one, and the delete button unlocks. We don't delete a community out from under the people in it. Servers where you're the only member go with your account.
If you can't sign in
Uninstalled the app, lost the password, or on a guest account with no email? Send us a request instead:
- Use the contact form and pick Account issue, or email contact@woosh.no from the address registered to the account.
- Include your Woosh username.
We verify that the account is yours, delete it, and confirm by email. Verified requests are completed within 30 days, usually much sooner.
What is removed
- Your profile: username, email, password, nickname, avatar, and banner.
- Your friends, and any friend requests you had sent or received.
- Your membership in every server you had joined.
- Your clips, including the video files behind them.
- Every file you sent: images, videos, and other attachments. The messages they were on stay, showing the file as no longer available.
- Your notification registrations, saved settings, read state, and notifications.
- Your record of accepting the Terms.
- Any server where you were the only member, along with its channels, messages, and custom emoji.
Voice and screen shares are never stored in the first place, so there is nothing there to delete.
What stays
Deleting your account is not the same as deleting the conversations you were in. A conversation belongs to everyone in it, so the other people keep their side of it.
- The messages you sent stay, shown as "Deleted user". Your name, avatar, and profile are stripped off them, and any file on them is deleted.
- Direct message conversations stay for the person on the other end. Their history is theirs.
- Servers you handed over stay, with their new owner.
- Custom emoji you uploaded to someone else's server stay. They belong to that server now.
Nothing left behind identifies you. The username, email, and password are gone, and there is no way to sign back in.
Want the messages gone too? Delete them before you delete the account. You can remove your own messages at any time. Afterwards there is no name left to look them up by.
Export your data first
Deletion is permanent, so take a copy if you want one. Settings → General → Privacy & Data → Email me my data sends a machine-readable JSON file to the address on your account. Guest accounts need an email on file first.
What we keep, and for how long
| Data | After deletion |
|---|---|
| Profile, friends, memberships, clips, files you sent, tokens | Gone immediately |
| Messages you sent | Kept, shown as "Deleted user", without their files. See above |
| Backups | Everything deleted is gone from backups within 30 days |
| Server and connection logs | Up to 90 days, for security and abuse prevention |
| Support messages and reports you sent | Up to 12 months after the ticket is closed |
| Moderation records | Up to 6 months, longer only while an investigation or legal dispute is open |
Full detail is in the Privacy Policy. Where the law makes us keep something longer, tax records for instance, we keep it for that period and no longer.
